We had no plans when we arrived in Hanoi, so we asked Funny Travel to help us plan trips in Hanoi. The lady greeting us, Vicky, was very helpful, and probably the most positive and happy woman we have ever met, and she made our days in Hanoi great! The tours she recommended were perfect for us. My family opted to do the car City tour and Street food via Funny Travel. Mr. Joe was easy to communicate with via email. He sent me a link to pay a deposit for our tour with the rest to be paid in cash. I happened to be by their office a couple of days before our tour and stopped by to ask if I could just pay the balance via credit card. Ms. Vicky was more than obliging to allow me to pay via credit card. She was very friendly and fun to speak with. My husband asked her about a banh mi place and not only did she have a recommendation - she walked us to it and helped us order!The tour itself was fantastic. We met our guide Tuc at the office where they had a van come pick us up. He was well versed on history of the area and quite personable. He was acutely aware of wait times at the various stops on our tour and would adjust the schedule to make sure we were going when there were less people to ensure more viewing time and less standing in line time. Note of interest - at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum - you cannot have bare shoulders. I didn't know this, but Tuc took care of me and was able to provide a scarf to use so we could go in. After seeing several sites we ate lunch at a great vegan restaurant and Tuc kindly showed us how to eat some of the Vietnamese food we haven't seen before. One of the things I loved most about this tour is that they take you to a pagoda that is not on the tourist circuit on the other side of the bridge leaving old quarter. The pagoda and the grounds were exceptionally peaceful and not overrun like many of the standard tourist stops. It also happens to be an orphanage run by the monks at the pagoda. Unfortunately we came when the older kids were at school and the younger children were napping so we did not get to see much of their living arrangements. As we were leaving, we asked about making a donation (note -they did not ask/solicit for any donation) to the orphanage. We were led back to give our donation and received a lovely card as a reminder of our gift. It was very special to me for part of the tour to go somewhere we could give back, even if its just a donation. I just wish we would have been able to see more of the orphanage facilities. It was also a great experience to share with my children beyond the standard tourist fare and gave them great perspective on their own life and how to help others. I was really moved by this part of the tour and for this alone would highly recommend it.The street food we were introduced to was fantastic, but we were so full from lunch is was hard to eat it all! Tuc was great about learning what we had already eaten during our time in Hanoi to make sure he was giving us new experiences and foods to try.We returned to the office at the end of the tour where we chatted a bit with Ms. Vicky and associates. We were asking about shopping and a lovely young lady in the office took us around to show us places to shop and even helped us bargain to get good prices (and man was she good!).All the staff of Funny Travel are warm, friendly people who really strive to make sure you enjoy your time in Hanoi. The tour was very special. I had not seen any other tours quite like it and am so glad we chose it. I can't say enough good things about Funny Travel and highly recommend them!Less
